City to Celebrate 'National Night Out'

The Redondo Beach police and fire departments will celebrate the event at the Target on Kingsdale Avenue.

Along with hundreds of other communities across the country, Redondo Beach will celebrate National Night Out at the on Kingsdale Avenue on Tuesday evening, according to the city's events calendar.

The local and will join the public in celebrating anti-crime efforts and community safety from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Food will be served.

According to the event's official website, National Night Out is designed to "heighten crime and drug-prevention awareness; generate support for … local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back." The event, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, started in 1983.
