City's Jobless Rate Climbs in July

Redondo Beach's unemployment rate climbed about one-half percent between June and July.

Redondo Beach's unemployment rate climbed to 7.1 percent in July, the state Employment Development Department reported Friday.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' preliminary unemployment numbers, the unemployment rate in Redondo Beach in June was about 6.6 percent.

In Los Angeles County, the seasonally-adjusted jobless rate is 12.4 percent, which is four-tenths of a percentage point above June's 12 percent rate, according to the state Employment Development Department. Statewide, the unemployment rate climbed to 12 percent in July—two-tenths of a percentage point above June's rate.

California's 12 percent jobless rate is the second-highest in the country, only behind Nevada.
