Condo Complex Fire Sends Resident to Hospital

The blaze in Brookside Village produces massive amounts of smoke.

Firefighters in Redondo Beach found a resident “disoriented with signs of thermal injury and smoke inhalation” when they responded Monday to a fire in the city. The patient was treated on scene and transported to a local emergency room, RB Fire Division Chief Issac Yang told Patch.

The fire, at 802 Camino Real, was determined to have started in the kitchen of a Brookside Village unit. When Redondo Beach Fire Department firefighters responded around 10:30 a.m., they “arrived on scene to discover smoke conditions down to the waist, in a three-story center hallway complex,” said DC Yang.

“The unit involved was charged with thick smoke to the ground,” he said. Firefighters “pulled drywall away from the cooking area to ensure that no fire had extended into void spaces.”
