Police ID Boy Killed by Delivery Truck

A delivery truck backed over a boy riding his bicycle near a loading dock in a North Redondo parking lot Friday morning, killing the child, said.

Police have identified the boy as 7-year-old Jeremy Perez, according to NBC Los Angeles. He was apparently on his way to visit his mother, who had recently begun to work at the grocery store.

"It appears the 7-year-old boy was riding his bicycle in the loading dock area," said Sgt. Shawn Freeman. "A delivery truck was maneuvering within the loading dock area and an accident occurred."

Jeremy was found under the truck, Freeman said.

Police said he suffered severe head trauma and was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

"[Jeremy] was my 7-year-old son's very dear friend," wrote user "Luv Pandas" in a comment on Patch. "We love and miss [you] our little angel."

Police said they're treating the death as an accident.
