DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for Friday
The Redondo Beach Police Department will set up a driver's license and DUI checkpoint Friday.

The Redondo Beach Police Department will set up a driver's license and DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location within city limits Friday.
The checkpoint will last from 7:30 p.m. Friday until 2:30 a.m. Monday.
Officers will check drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment, as well as for proper licensing, at the checkpoint; however, police will "strive to delay motorists only momentarily," according to a news release from the Redondo Beach Police Department.

Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail; license suspension; insurance increases; DUI classes; and fines, fees and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
"Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed (one) life and resulted in 84 injury crashes harming 106 of our friends and neighbors," Sgt. Chuck Prestia said.

According to police, DUI checkpoints are a proven deterrent for reducing the number of people killed and injured in alcohol- or drug-involved crashes.
