Fiery Crash With Pole Kills Man, Injures Woman In The South Bay

A car collided with a pole and caught fire with two people inside late Wednesday night in the South Bay.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — A man was killed, and a woman was injured in a fiery crash with a light pole in Redondo Beach late Wednesday night.

The Redondo Beach Police Department responded to a report of a single vehicle crash at approximately 11:17 p.m. at the intersection of Palos Verdes Boulevard and South Catalina Avenue. Authorities were told a male driver and female passenger were inside the car when it crashed.

Paramedics declared the driver dead at the scene and brought the passenger to the hospital to treat minor injuries sustained in the crash. The man's identity was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, RBPD said.
