Fight Leads to Discovery of Stolen Gun

A fight on the shortly after midnight Tuesday led to the recovery of a gun stolen from a car trunk the week before, said.

According to Detective Sgt. Shawn Freeman, officers were dispatched to the pier in response to calls about four people fighting.

Officers found the people—who turned out to be juveniles—and discovered that besides the victim, there were apparently two attackers and one witness, Freeman said.

As police officers the area, "they did recover a handgun nearby where the suspects were located," Freeman said. One of the officers recognized the gun, which Freeman described as "kind of unique," as meeting the description of one recently stolen.

"We got lucky," Freeman said. "These suspects basically had this handgun."

The victim, who suffered cuts to his face and head, was transported to the hospital with noncritical injuries, Freeman said.
