Former Chief to Lead Seal Beach PD

Former Redondo Beach Police Chief Robert Luman is named interim chief for the Seal Beach Police Department.

Former Redondo Beach Police Chief Robert M. Luman will take the helm of the Seal Beach Police Department as its new interim chief while the city searches for a permanent successor.

Luman, who served as the chief for the from 2002 until his retirement in 2006 and was succeeded by current Chief Joe Leonardi, will be paid $4,000 per week and given a cellphone allowance.

When hired by the city of Redondo Beach, Luman agreed to a base salary of $132,780 plus benefits.

Prior to serving in Redondo Beach, Luman retired as the chief of the Long Beach Police Department in 2002 after working his way up through the ranks. Over the past decade, he also served for a time as an interim chief in Riverside and, more recently, as the interim chief in Newport Beach.
