Former Student Stabs 3 Staffers At South Bay School: Police

The former student also planted incendiary devices nearby, according to police.

TORRANCE, CA — A former student stabbed three staff members on Monday at a Torrance school and planted incendiary devices nearby, according to police.

The attack occurred around 8:15 a.m. at the Switzer Learning Center, a special education school in the 2200 block of Amapola Court, according to police. In addition to stabbing three staffers, the former student tried to stab a fourth staff member before fleeing, police said.

Two of the victims were taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening and the third was treated at the scene, according to police.

Their attacker was taken into custody, at which time he said he had placed two pipe bombs in the area of 208th Street and Amapola Avenue, according to police. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad was contacted to investigate and community members were advised to stay away, police said.

Two incendiary devices were located and rendered safe by the bomb squad, police said in an update Monday afternoon.
