Friday Rain to Give Way to Saturday Sun

Nearly an inch of rain fell on Redondo Beach on Friday.

A cold winter storm brought the Southland showers and high winds Friday and a spike in crashes on Southland roadways; however, the storm appeared to have passed in Redondo Beach by afternoon, revealing a brilliant sunset.

Sunny weather and higher temperatures were forecast for the weekend.

Rainfall totals in the 24-hour period ending at 4 p.m. included .96 of an inch in Redondo Beach.

California Highway Patrol Officer Ming Hsu said that between midnight and 9 a.m. today, there were 312 reports of accidents on Los Angeles freeways and other L.A. County roads patrolled by the CHP. A week ago during that same time period, when it did not rain, there were 83 reports of accidents, he said.

The recorded high temperature for Friday in Redondo Beach was 59 degrees; the forecast high for Saturday is 61 degrees, and for Sunday, 70 degrees.
