Gas Prices Fall for 7 Weeks Straight

The average price of a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline is now $3.896.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Thursday for the seventh straight week, the Automobile Club of Southern California reported Thursday night.

The average price is $3.896 per gallon—4.5 cents less than last week and 29 cents less than it was at this time last month, according to the Auto Club. The price is still 89 cents higher than it was last year at this time.

"Prices have been declining more slowly in recent days," Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring said. "However, oil prices took a tumble [Thursday] to just below $92 per barrel after news about the economy and an announced release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

"If the lower oil price holds, we may see additional declines at the pump."

The slide began in early May and came after gas prices rose 43 times in 45 days.
