Girls Cross Country Heads to State

With a third-place finish in the CIF Southern Section Finals, the Lady Sea Hawks earn a spot among the competitors at Saturday's state championships.

Cross country runners from raced their hearts out at Saturday's CIF Southern Section Finals at Mt. San Antonio College for a chance to qualify for the state championships.

With a third-place finish in the Division II women's race, the Lady Sea Hawks clinched a spot for the state championships in Fresno, CA next Saturday. The top 7 spots in each division move on to the state championships.

Junior Kayla Ferron, senior Rachel Bush and junior Cara Ulizio finished in the Nos. 12, 15 and 18 spots with times of 17:43, 17:49 and 17:51, respectively, in the race. Their times were fast enough to rank Ferron at No. 19, Bush at No. 23 and Ulizio at No. 30 across all women's divisions.

The Redondo boys cross country team, competing in its first CIF finals since 2008, finished 11th in its division.

Sophomore William Tait, junior Evan Malone and senior Tyler Caracoza finished 33rd, 37th and 42nd with times of 15:47, 15:51 and 15:57, respectively, in the Division II race.

The girls will race in the 2011 CIF State Cross Country Championships presented by Farmers at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA at 12:50 p.m.
