Lane was born John Kennedy Oswald in Akron, OH. He moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1980s and teamed up with his Warrant bandmates. The band's first two albums—Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich (1989) and Cherry Pie (1990)—sold more than 2 million copies each and went double-platinum.
Lane left the band in 2004 and rejoined it in 2008; however, he left Warrant permanently several months later, City News Service reported. More recently, he was arrested twice on suspicion of driving under the influence and served time in jail.
