K-9 Team Seeks Funds for Competition

Officer Ken Greenleaf and police dog Caden want to compete at the World Police and Fire Games in New York.

A Redondo Beach police officer and his police dog are seeking donations to finance a final trip to the World Police and Fire Games' Canine Competition at the end of August, according to the Daily Breeze.

will compete against teams in multiple events, including agility, obedience and search work.

This won't be the pair's first competition. Greenleaf and Caden received first place in the novice division and were named team champions at the . The department canceled the 2011 trials.

This is not Greenleaf's first trip to the Games. In 2009, he and police dog Valor won four gold medals in the canine competition. Valor died less than a year later of kidney disease.

Nevertheless, it will be Greenleaf's final trip; he plans to retire with Caden at the beginning of September.

Donations, which can be made in Greenleaf's name to the Redondo Beach K-9 Fund at the , will pay for airfare and hotel costs. Any leftover funds will go to the city's K-9 Fund.
