Letter: Library Call System Flawed
One resident says the library's automated calling system is flawed—and it's costing patrons money.

The started charging $2 if you don't pick up your DVD within a week. If it's a mistake, trying to get this removed takes an act of God. They refuse to remove the charges, taking their flawed automated calling system's word over the patron's word. They said they called and left a voicemail for me to pick up the movie, and I never got the call. This was a few months ago.
I wrote to Jean Scully (the director) and when she wouldn't budge, I wrote to the City Manager, Bill Workman, and he was so cool he sent me the $2 out of his own pocket to clear my account.
Now it has happened again! This time with two movies I have been waiting for several months for my turn. I looked on my library account, and there is now a $4 charge.

I am home all day since I work from home, and I check my phone messages about every 5 minutes. I did not get any notification and to continue to be charged like this is ridiculous.
Scully will not budge. She says, "Sorry, our records show our automated phone system called you on" and she gives the exact time. Talking to her is like talking to a brick wall. So I will talk to Bill Workman again, but he shouldn't have to bail me out since the problem is with their system.

What really ticks me off is that now I have to get in back of the line again and wait another four months for those two movies.
Sincerely,
Elmon Lamour
