Letter: Michael Jackson Offers Broader Perspective
Councilman Bill Brand has spent too much time on a single issue, writes District 2 voter Rex Alison.

Having attended multiple Redondo Beach City Council meetings, King Harbor/Redondo Pier Vision meetings, and related events this past year, it has become glaringly apparent to me that Councilman Bill 'Single Issue' Brand has become both an embarrassment and a liability to the 70,000 residents of Redondo Beach. Moreover, apart from a single misguided issue, 'Single Issue' Brand has been an all-but-invisible and wholly ineffective disappointment to the voters of District 2.
'Single Issue' Brand's idea of vision was to replace an old car wash with a new car wash. At the Pier Redevelopment Vision meeting, more District 2-related questions were asked by other councilmen than by ol' 'Single Issue', who seemed content to joke about out of town power plant demolition. Brand couldn't even decide for which office to run last Fall; at least that fits with his surreal record of flip-flopping, inaction, and puerile propensity to bask in the glow of the work of others. His latest example of shameless bandwagoning is the Chevron and Moonstone Park deal. That deal fell into the city's lap, wholly contingent upon the agreement of others, with absolutely no value add from ol' 'Single Issue'. One wonders if ol' 'Single Issue' would be quite so giddily sycophantic were it AES or his employer LAX (pollution, anyone?) rather than Chevron who funded a quarter-acre pocket park.
Enough is enough. Do not be branded with ignorance or blinded by the light. It is time for the voters of District 2 to turn ol' 'Single Issue' Brand into 'Single Term' Brand. He, along with perennial gadfly Jim Light and their ilk need to be collectively relegated to the sidelines while the adults regain control and move our city forward safely and sensibly at this critical time.

Fortunately, we have a District 2 candidate with exceptional experience and the confidence of the community (see numerous endorsements) to right the ship before any more damage is done. Vote for Michael Jackson and bring sanity and common sense back to District 2.
