Map: Redondo Beach Unemployment Rate Among Lowest in State

Unemployment dipped in California in April from a 9.4 percent to a 9 percent seasonally adjusted rate, with Redondo Beach's jobless rate coming in at one of the lowest in the state, according to recently released figures from the California Employment Development Department.

The non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.5 percent in April.

Redondo Beach's non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate dropped from 5.2 percent in March to 4.9 percent in April, remaining far below the state average.

Redondo's unemployment rate is slightly higher than the surrounding beach cities of Torrance (4.6 percent), Hermosa Beach (4.1 percent) and Manhattan Beach (3.2 percent). The city has a lower unemployment rate than Lawndale (9.2 percent) and Hawthorne (12.1 percent).

Seasonal adjustment accounts for seasonal shifts in labor, such as increased construction and agricultural work in spring and summer. Only non-seasonally adjusted figures are available for individual cities.
