Nordstrom Rack to Open Thursday

A Nordstrom Rack will open at the South Bay Marketplace, the new shopping center south of the Galleria.

The newest addition to the South Bay Marketplace, a , will officially open at 9 a.m. Thursday, according to a notice on the Nordstrom website.

The Nordstrom Rack, which will take up 35,000 square feet, is opening only a block away from the retail store in the , which opened in 1985, according to a February news release from the company.

"We know we have lots of loyal customers in the South Bay area and we're excited to be able to serve them with a brand new Nordstrom Rack," said Scott Meden, president of Nordstrom Rack, in the news release.

As part of the grand opening celebration, the store will choose one customer at 8:45 a.m. to "race through the Rack," according to a notice on Nordstrom.com. The person will be the first one to enter the store, and he or she will have 90 seconds to grab up to $2,000 worth of clothes, shoes, accessories and other merchandise. 

Nordstrom Rack carries out-of-season and unsold merchandise from Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com for 50 to 60 percent off the original price. The off-price store also offers clothing, accessories and shoes purchased specifically for Nordstrom Rack to customers for 30 to 70 percent off regular prices.

The Nordstrom Rack joins other recently opened stores , , and .

A Color Me Mine, which allows customers to paint various ceramic items, will open mid-September.

Nordstrom Rack is located on Hawthorne Boulevard, just south of the South Bay Galleria.
