NWS Issues Dense Fog Advisory

Despite unseasonably warm temperatures in the region, the coastal cities have dealt with a thick marine layer over the past couple days, and Wednesday night will be no different, forecasters predict.

A dense fog advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 9 a.m. Thursday along the coasts of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, the Palos Verdes Peninsula, San Pedro and Long Beach, according to the National Weather Service.

"Dense fog near the coast will spread inland this evening and affect most of the coastal plains by midnight," according to the NWS. "The fog is expected to clear to the beaches by late Thursday morning."

Meteorologists predict that visibility will be limited to one quarter of a mile or less at times.

"Reduced visibilities and slick roadways will make driving potentially hazardous," according to the NWS, which added that Pacific Coast Highway and Sepulveda Boulevard, and the 405, 110 and 710 freeways will be especially affected.

"If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you," forecasters said. "Fog can also make road surfaces slick so avoid using excessive speed."
