Police: Burglary Suspect Arrested After Neighbor Phoned in Tip

The suspect was arrested because the neighbor phoned in the tip immediately, according to a police spokesman.

A burglary suspect was arrested May 7 after a neighbor spotted a suspicious person leaving a residence in the 800 block of Avenue C in South Redondo Beach, according to Redondo Beach Police Department spokesman Sgt. Shawn Freeman.

Officers were first dispatched to the area at about 11:30 a.m., with dispatchers soon providing a description of the burglar's getaway vehicle, according to the Recent Law Enforcement Events release from the police department. Torrance police officers spotted the vehicle and detained the suspect at Sepulveda Boulevard and Gramercy Avenue.

Redondo police officers at the home on Avenue C confirmed that a break-in had occurred after discovering someone had forced entry and ransacked the house. Witnesses later identified the suspect captured by Torrance police as the burglary.

The suspect was booked into jail at the Redondo Beach Police Department on suspicion of burglary and felony evading, as well as placed on a parole hold.

Freeman emphasized that because the neighbor called police when he or she first spotted the suspected burglar instead of waiting until the next day, officers were able to arrest the suspect quickly. He encouraged all residents to immediately report suspicious activity.
