Public Safety Fair Offers Family Fun

The Redondo Beach Police Department's annual public safety fair draws hundreds.

The hosted its annual on Sunday, drawing a crowd from across the city.

The event featured booths from CERT, the Historical Society, RBPD's K-9 team and other public organizations. Kids could pose for photos on a police motorcycle, have their faces painted, string lanyards, examine the country's fastest police car, walk a straight line while wearing "drunk goggles," eat hot dogs and watch demonstrations from the K-9 unit and a local martial arts academy.

RBPD's SWAT team also performed a hostage rescue simulation, and the ripped the top off a car in its demonstration of the Jaws of Life.

Police Chief Joe Leonardi said this year's turnout was excellent, especially considering that it was scheduled at the same time as Manhattan Beach's annual Hometown Fair. Hundreds of people attended, including many officers and their families.
