RBPD Finishes 6th in Baker to Vegas Relay
The annual Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay is a two-day, 120-mile trek through the Mojave Desert.
The Redondo Beach Police Department's Team Surf to Sand finished in the top 10 in its division in the two-day, 120-mile Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay last weekend.
With its sixth-place finish among law-enforcement agencies with fewer than 99 sworn personnel, RBPD beat out other South Bay departments from El Segundo (eighth place) and Gardena (10th place). The Murrieta Police Department won the division.
"This race would not have been possible without the support of local business and the dozens of individual community members who attended the Pasta feed fund raiser and donated money," Detective Robert Carlborg wrote in an email to Patch.

The money raised from the spaghetti dinner in March paid for support staff, supplies, food and other necessities.
The annual event is designed to increase fitness, teamwork, camaraderie and pride among officers, according to Carlborg.
