Redondo Beach Gas Station Sells $393K Powerball Ticket

The winner matched five numbers in Saturday's drawing, but did not get the Powerball. Wednesday's drawing is estimated at $35 million.

REDONDO BEACH, CA —Gas may be expensive these days, but somebody had a very lucrative trip to a local gas station recently.

After Saturday's Powerball multi-state lottery drawing, it was announced that a ticket containing five correct numbers, though missing the Powerball number, was sold at a Redondo Beach gas station, according to Fox 11. The specific location of the gas station was not revealed.

The ticket is worth $393,664, the station reported.

In many states, having five numbers, but missing the Powerball number can be worth either $1 million or $2 million. However, California law requires major lottery payoffs to be made on a pari-mutuel basis.

The Powerball game is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The jackpot for Saturday's Powerball lottery was $20 million. Without a big winner, the jackpot rolled over to $26 million for Monday's drawing, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game.

There were no tickets sold with all six numbers for Monday's Powerball lottery, which means Wednesday's drawing is expected to grow to $35 million, the Multi-State Lottery Association said.

A ticket with five correct numbers, but missing the Powerball number, was sold in New Mexico ahead of Monday night's drawing, City News Service reported.

According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, the odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number are 1 in about 293 million.
