Redondo Hosts Memorial Day Observance

The Veterans Memorial at Veterans Park in Redondo Beach is the site of the city's annual Memorial Day observance.

The city of Redondo Beach hosted its annual Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Park in South Redondo Beach on Monday.

Speakers included Rep. Henry Waxman, Mayor Mike Gin and Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi. The flag that was retired during the annual ceremony was given to Bea Cohen, a real-life "Rosie the Riviter" during World War II.

Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Terrell Horne III, a Redondo Beach resident who was killed when a panga boat allegedly smuggling drugs rammed the small boat he was on, was also honored during the ceremony.

More than 500 people attended the ceremony, according to Lt. Col. (Ret.) Tom Lasser.
