Redondo Beach's Video Rental Store Closes After 25 Years

The store outlasted BlockBusters and other video rental giants of the 90s.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — A video rental fixture in Redondo Beach managed to outlive Blockbuster but was no match against Netflix and retirement. The store is set to close July 25, the Daily Breeze reported.

The store managed to compete with the likes of Blockbuster and Hollywood Video stores, the giants of their day, because of its eclectic and hard-to-find offerings. At one time, Premiere Video, had more than 54,000 members.

When streaming services, such as Netflix, became popular, the store stayed in business because of low-tech senior citizens living nearby and a core group of movie buffs who liked the store's one-of-a-kind offerings.
