Redondo Man Charged in Child Rape

About two weeks after he was arrested on suspicion of raping a Gardena woman, Corey Stewart is charged with raping an 11-year-old girl in 2005.

A Redondo Beach man charged with raping a Gardena woman he met on Tagged.com in September of last year has also been charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in 2005, the Daily Breeze reported Tuesday.

Corey Delaine Stewart, 40, is accused of inviting the runaway girl, who was working as a prostitute in Los Angeles, into his car and raping her, Deputy District Attorney Lisa Houle told the Breeze. The victim now lives in Long Beach. She contacted police when she saw news of Stewart's arrest on television.

The assault mirrors the one reported in Gardena. That victim told police that Stewart raped her at gunpoint in his car.

"The car was set up so that the passenger could not exit," Gardena police said in a statement. "The door handles and locking devises were disabled."

Stewart was arrested at the end of February after investigators identified him as a suspect through DNA analysis.
