Redondo Under Wind, High Surf Advisories

Redondo Beach is under a hazardous weather outlook, with high winds blowing across the city and high surf battering the coastline, according to the National Weather Service.

The wind advisory for the Los Angeles County coast is expected to last through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Westerly winds will continue into the evening before shifting to northerly winds before weakening late Monday, according to meteorologists. The winds are expected to be 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph.

"Winds this strong can down power lines and tree limbs," the NWS reported. "Dangerous cross winds will create hazardous driving conditions."

The high surf advisory will continue through 11 a.m. Tuesday for west- and northwest-facing beaches, according to the NWS.

"Storm force and gale force winds across the coastal waters will produce a large wind-driven swell from (Monday) through Tuesday morning," according to the NWS. "This swell will come ashore and create high surf conditions through Tuesday morning."

Forecasters predict 7- to 9-foot swells with some 11-foot sets interspersed.

"A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion," according to meteorologists.

Monday night should be mostly clear with a low around 51 degrees in Redondo beach, according to the NWS. Tuesday will be sunny with a predicted high near 67 degrees. Forecasters predict that a northwestern 5-10 mph wind will become a western 10-15 mph wind by the afternoon, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
