Riviera Market Celebrates Birthday

The Riviera Village Farmers Market celebrates its first anniversary.

The Riviera Village Farmers Market celebrated its first anniversary Friday with a ribbon-cutting, music and more.

Melanie Barsuk and her daughter, 9-year-old Jenna, of Simple Gourmet held a cooking demonstration in conjunction with the Healthways-Blue Zones Vitality City initiative.

Using only ingredients from the market, the pair cooked up two plant-based dishes that were delicious, flavorful and filling.

Barsuk said she enjoyed the activity with her daughter. "Get your kids involved in cooking—it's more fun," she said.

Market manager Susan Hillyer seemed pleased with how the weekly event has grown, and one day, she hopes that it will stretch along Avenue I from Pacific Coast Highway to the Esplanade.
