Saturday DUI Checkpoint Planned

The checkpoint is part of a national anti-DUI campaign, according to the Redondo Beach Police Department.

The has scheduled a DUI and driver's license checkpoint for Saturday night at 6 p.m., according to a news release sent out Thursday.

Police did not disclose the exact location of the checkpoint, only saying that it would be within the Redondo Beach city limits.

The checkpoint is part of a national end-of-summer campaign known as "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." Nearly 10,000 other law-enforcement agencies have joined the effort.

In 2009, more than 10,800 people died in crashes related to driving under the influence, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
