South Bay Mom Fundraises In Honor Of Son Killed In Balcony Fall
Martha Barbee of Redondo Beach hopes to offer a scholarship in her son's memory.

REDONDO BEACH, CA -- A former Redondo Beach councilwoman, who recently lost her son after he fell from a balcony, launched a GoFundMe campaign with the hopes of offering a scholarship in her son's memory. Martha Barbee said the annual scholarship will "honor Vince's memory."
Vincent Barbee, 15, died earlier this month after he fell off a balcony from the family's home. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.
Martha Barbee said she hopes to raise $30,000 to offer annual scholarships to graduating seniors at Redondo Union High School.

Vince's passions were Redondo Sunset Baseball, Junior Lifeguards and the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps," Martha Barbee wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Redondo Union High School principal Jens Brandt and Redondo Beach Unified School District Superintendent Steven Keller issued a joint statement recognizing the Barbee family as "a significant force in our learning community" and saying the teen "will be missed."
