South Bay School Leaders Fined For Campaign Violations
The leaders were fined thousands of dollars by the California Fair Political Practices Commission.

REDONDO BEACH, CA -- State officials recently fined three school board leaders in the South Bay for campaign violations. The Beach Reporter said the Redondo Beach leaders apparently violated state election laws last year.
"The error happened when Board President Brad Waller, who served as treasurer for a joint campaign committee made up of himself and fellow school board members Brad Serkin and Michael Christensen, paid for close to $3,000 in yard signs and other campaign material with a credit card in seven transactions from July 2016 to February 2017," the Beach Reporter said. "Waller than reimbursed himself through a joint bank account once it was created, and therein lies the violation."
Waller told the newspaper he ordered the yard signs with a credit card because it was faster than creating a joint bank account.

"The joint committee raised more than $10,000, largely from personal contributions, and spent close to $8,000 in their re-election bids. All three candidates successfully earned their second four-year term in office," the Beach Reporter said.
The school leaders will have to pay a $2,000 fine for the violation.
