Students Compete In Handball Tourney

Elementary school students compete in the second annual Redondo Beach District-Wide Handball Tournament.

Students from Redondo Beach elementary schools faced off Saturday for a "schoolyard battle of strategy and physical prowess" in the second annual Redondo Beach District-Wide Handball Tournament, according to a news release from the .

Boys and girls from third, fourth and fifth grades competed in the double-elimination tournament, which started at 8:30 a.m. at , BCHD said in its news release.

Playing handball—a one-on-one game where players use their hands to hit a rubber ball against a wall—gives students the opportunity to get moving, BCHD said.

"This tournament oozes sportsmanship and fun," Washington Elementary School Principal Vivian Ibarra said. "The day turned out to be a tremendous success—family and friends were in full-force, wearing their school colors and cheering on the students—and most importantly, the kids were moving and having fun."

Tournament winners received tickets to Knott's Berry Farm and passes for AdventurePlex. Here are this year's winners:
