The outage was also to blame for the unplanned flaring event at the Torrance refinery.

HAWTHORNE, CA — Thousands in the South Bay were without power Monday morning because of equipment problems, Southern California Edison said.

There were 6,125 customers in Gardena, about 1,589 customers in Westmont and 34 customers in Hawthorne were without power, according to the utility's website. The causes were being analyzed, SCE said.

Crews are working to restore power, but no estimated restoration time was given by the utility.

The outage was also to blame for an unplanned flaring event at the Torrance refinery. The refinery said an off-site transformer failure was the cause for the flaring.

Del Amo Boulevard was closed between Crenshaw Boulevard and Maple Avenue at around 8 a.m. until the completion of the flare off. The roadway was reopened shortly before 10 a.m.
