Time-Lapse Video Shows Coke Drums' Journey
The giant coke drums were offloaded onto Mole B in King Harbor, then transported to a staging area off Pacific Coast Highway on three consecutive Monday nights.
Three pairs of massive coke drums bound for the Chevron refinery in El Segundo made their way through Redondo Beach's King Harbor and the Beach Cities over three consecutive Monday and Wednesday nights in February and March.
A film crew followed the cokers—500,000-pound, 100-foot-long, 28-feet-in-diameter drums used to heat and "crack" crude oil—first from their journey from the Port of Los Angeles and onto Mole B in King Harbor Marina, and then as they made their way up Harbor Drive and Herondo Street to the staging area off Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach, then along Pacific Coast Highway and Sepulveda Boulevard through Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach.
The producers of the coke drum time-lapse video also put together the famous time-lapse video of the Space Shuttle Endeavour's journey through the streets of Los Angeles to the California Science Center.
