Harbor Drive Crash Kills Driver

The driver of a Dodge Durango is killed after he crashes into the Best Western sign.

A pickup truck collided with the sign for the on Harbor Drive on Thursday morning, killing the 71-year-old male driver, according to .

Apparently, the man passed out behind the wheel of his Dodge Durango, and his foot stayed on the accelarator as he drove south on Harbor Drive, Keenan said. He clipped a white convertible headed north, then rammed the sign at about 10:40 a.m.

Though he was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived, the man died at the hospital, Keenan said. Police believe he may have had a heart attack.

According to Keenan, an autopsy will determine whether the man died of a heart attack or from injuries sustained in the crash.

Police closed Harbor Drive between the Cheesecake Factory and Beryl Street for several hours. Volunteer officers redirected traffic around the scene.

The pickup's passenger and the people in the convertible were uninjured, Keenan said.
