Warning Issued for Beach South of Pier

Authorities say a water sample taken south of the pier exceeded state bacterial standards.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Thursday issued a warning to people who plan to head to the shore south of the .

According to the department's website, beachgoers should avoid going into the water between the pier and 100 yards south of the pier because bacterial levels in a water quality sample taken 50 yards south of the pier exceeded state standards.

The department also issued 30-day grades of the water quality at four spots on Redondo beaches. The sample taken 50 yards south of the pier and the sample taken in front of the Herondo Street storm drain received a grade of B.

The samples taken 50 yards north of the Herondo Street storm drain and on the north side of the Topaz Street Jetty both received A's.
