Motorhome Fire Congests 280
Update: Tuesday @ 3 p.m.
All lanes and access ramps are now open on southbound 280.
--
Two lanes on southbound Interstate 280 closed Tuesday morning, while crews cleaned detritus from a car fire. California Highway Patrol is in the process of bringing towing equipment to remove the remains of a motorized vehicle that burst into flames at about 10 a.m.
Two men inside the camper evacuated the vehicle at about 10:14 and watched first responders try to stop the fire from the side of the road, according to CHP records.
People driving along 280 were doing the same, causing congestion in both directions. Most of the traffic congestion experienced by drivers took place on the southbound side of the road, after CHP closed the Farm Hill on ramp at 10: 19 a.m.
At 11:41 a.m., the Farm Hill on ramp to southbound 280 remained closed, as did two lanes of traffic on southbound 280. Lanes and the on ramp are expected to remain closed through 2 p.m.
-- Original news alert:
The Farm Hill on ramp to 280 south is closed while detritus from a car fire is being cleared. Lanes are closed, causing major congestion. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes. More details coming soon.
