Elder Abuse Defendant Who Hurt Police K9 Headed To Sentencing
The Peninsula man who racked up charges on his grandmother's credit cards was aggressive toward officers and the K9 during the arrest.

REDWOOD CITY, CA -- A 23-year-old Peninsula man who fraudulently used his 80 year-old Pacifica grandmother's credit cards is due for sentencing Feb. 20 after pleading no contest to elder abuse and obstructing police business, the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office reported.
It was determined that Dustin Raleigh Cottrell had racked up almost $3,000 in illegal purchases with her credit cards in a three month period, the San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies reported. During the course of the arrest in Pacifica, Cottrell became belligerent, cursing at, punching and kicking an officer. When the suspect fled, officers pursued and released K9 "Hacker," which Cottrell hurt when he slammed down the garage door on the dog. Cottrell fled, until two days later, officers were able to take him into custody.
The defendant is currently out of custody on his own recognizance.
