Fast-Moving Grass Fire Prompts Evacuation Orders In San Mateo County
The fire broke out at Edgewood Road and Crestview Drive in the Emerald Hills area.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A 25-acre grass fire prompted evacuation orders in an area of San Mateo County on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire broke out after 2 p.m. at Edgewood Road and Crestview Drive in the Emerald Hills area. An evacuation/reunification location was set up Veterans Memorial Senior Center at 1455 Madison Ave. in Redwood City.
Several structures were threatened early Tuesday evening, according Cal Fire CZU Battalion Chief Ethan Petersen.

"Right now it’s holding at 20 acres," Peterson said. "It’s looking good right now. If we can hold it at the 20 acres, we’ll be looking good."
Wind conditions were minimal, according to Peterson.

One firefighter was injured and taken to Stanford. His condition was unknown, according to Jonathon Cox, the deputy fire chief for Cal Fire San Mateo County.
Two neighborhood zones had evacuation orders with an “immediate threat to life,” according to the Zonehaven evacuation app. The first zone was the area north of Southview Way and Fox Hollow Lane, south of Hillcrest Way, east of West California Way and Hillcrest Way and West of Emerald Estates Court and Jefferson Avenue.

The second area was north of Hillcrest Way, south of Mountain View Way, east of Sylvan Way and Glenloch Way and west of Lakeview Way.
A third area closer to Highway 280 and Woodside was under an evacuation warning. Temperatures on Tuesday exceeded 100 degrees.
Smoke from the fire was visible from Highway 280.
