Large Sinkhole Closes SR-35 In San Mateo Co. For Indefinite Time
Motorists will need to find an alternative route since the highway remains collapsed between Alpine Road and the Santa Clara County line.
REDWOOD CITY, CA -- A massive sinkhole has closed State Route 35 in San Mateo County in both directions between Alpine Road to the Santa Clara County line, the California Highway Patrol reported.
It is unknown how long it will take to fix the collapse of the road measuring an area of about 10- by 15-feet. It was first reported early Sunday morning. On Monday, the road had fallen by about five feet.
"We don't know how bad the road is underneath," CHP Redwood City spokesman Art Montiel told Patch Monday morning.
