Man Pleads No Contest In Redwood City Grocery Store Stabbing

Anthony Lamar Webb will serve 12 years in state prison and will be sentenced July 14 for the 2019 incident at a Grocery Outlet.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A man accused of stabbing a security guard at a Redwood City grocery store in the chest in 2019 pleaded no contest to attempted voluntary manslaughter this week, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Anthony Lamar Webb will serve 12 years in state prison and will be sentenced July 14.

Webb was 56 years old at the time of the incident at the Grocery Outlet on Broadway in Redwood City. According to a store employee, Webb was overheard saying “I’m going to get him” after complaining about the security guard looking at him, prosecutors said.

Webb had purchased several times before pulling out a knife and stabbing the plain clothes security guard in the chest, according to prosecutors. The guard was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but survived.
