The man was accused of walking up behind the boy with a pocket knife on El Camino Real Thursday morning.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A man accused of robbing a 16-year-old at knifepoint on Thursday in Redwood City pleaded not guilty during his arraignment and remains in custody on $40,000 bail.

Jose Armando Sajuan, a 26-year-old parolee, was accused of walking up behind the boy with a pocket knife on El Camino Real Thursday morning and threatening his life if he didn’t hand over money, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors said the boy handed over $400.

A witness who saw the altercation called 911 and an officer quickly detained Sajuan, who claimed that he was drunk and high, according to prosecutors. He then said, “Robbery? It was just a theft” when officers told him he was being charged with robbery, the district attorney’s office said.
