Peninsula Suspect Captured After Escaping Custody

The suspect was initially taken into custody after a vehicle pursuit, authorities said. A second suspect remains at large.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A man who was arrested on weapons charges after leading authorities on a pursuit early Sunday morning was captured after escaping custody, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jack B. Gil-Salgado, 23 of Menlo Park, removed his handcuff during an initial booking at a Sheriff’s Office substation and led deputies on a foot chase before being taken into custody for a second time, the agency said.

Gil-Salgado was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon in a car, possession of a large capacity magazine, being a gang member carrying a loaded firearm, evading police and resisting arrest, among other charges, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Gil-Salgado was eventually booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility, the Sheriff’s Office said.
An additional suspect remains at large.

Deputies at around 3:14 a.m. Sunday attempted to pull over a vehicle code violations, but the driver of the vehicle declined to comply, leading authorities on a pursuit northbound on Middlefield Road “at a high rate of speed with wanton disregard for public safety, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies located the vehicle disabled after it had crashed into a parked car and created a perimeter after observing two males fleeing from the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Gil-Salgado was found hiding in the area and arrested, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A loaded firearm with an extended magazine was found during a search of the suspect vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

“Deputies are conducting follow up investigation to identify the second suspect who fled from the scene of the accident,” the agency said.
