Redwood City Fatal Fire Victim Identified

The blaze broke out late Saturday night in the Redwood City woman's kitchen.

REDWOOD CITY, CA -- A one-alarm fire in a single-family home in Redwood City last weekend claimed the life of a woman who has now been identified by the San Mateo County coroner's office as Catherine Case, 57, of Redwood City.

An initial emergency call reporting the fire was made at 10:08 p.m. Saturday, with firefighters arriving four minutes later at 556 Jackson Ave., according to Redwood City Fire Chief Stan Maupin.

The kitchen blaze was extinguished by 10:36 p.m.

The fire also injured a man, who was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, Maupin said.

No one else lived at the single-family residence. The majority of the damage was confined to the kitchen, though smoke damage was present in other areas of the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
