Stolen Gun Seized In Redwood City Arrest: Cops

The investigation led to a Peninsula man's arrest on weapons charges, but police have not yet determined who fired the shots.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — An investigation of a Peninsula shooting earlier this month led the arrest of a man on weapons charges, Redwood City Police said.

Jesus Jahir SosaOrtega, 19 of Redwood City, was arrested on suspicion of illegally carrying a loaded firearm, possession of stolen property, and resisting an executive officer, police said.

He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail, police said.

Officers at around 8:45 p.m. Aug. 2 responding to the 700 block of Cedar Street on the report of a firearm being discharged in the area, and arrested SosaOrtega after he initially attempted to run from the scene, police said.

Officers determined the handgun was stolen, and eight shell casings recovered in the area were the same caliber as the gun in SosaOrtega’s possession, police said.

An investigation continues into who fired the shots, police said.
