San Mateo Co Sheriff's Deputy Accused Of Assault, Placed On Leave

Claims related to a probe may implicate the six-year county deputy of three instances of assault.

REDWOOD CITY, CA -- A six-year San Mateo County deputy sheriff is accused of assaulting an inmate at the Maguire Correctional Facility six months ago while working under the auspices of authority.

During the investigation, the county District Attorney's Office also discovered two other instances in which Blake Lycett, 42, may have abused his authority while working in corrections at the facility on 300 Bradford St.

The first complaint came from a former inmate who claimed Lycett physically assaulting him while he was in custody at Maguire Correctional Facility. The inmate described the aggressor and following an internal review, the probe pointed to Lycett as the deputy potentially responsible for the assault.

Given the nature of the allegation, the case was turned over to the District Attorney’s office, which identified and submitted two additional incidents of potential conduct relating to assault involving the deputy. These two additional incidents also allegedly took place at the Maguire Correctional Facility.

“This is not conduct we condone or believe represents the dedicated personnel here at the Sheriff’s office”, said San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos Bolanos, “We take these allegations very seriously and want to thank everyone who came forward.”

Once the District Attorney’s Office determined the allegations could be corroborated, Lycett was
placed on administrative leave pending the completion of a criminal and administrative investigation.
