Sequoia Healthcare District Addresses Growing Concern

CEO Lee Michelson addresses a new program, called 70 Strong.

Like many California communities, San Mateo County is experiencing a rapid growth of older adults with the largest increase in population expected to be 70 years and older in the decade ahead.

In response to this growing concern and in honor of our 70th year of service to the 220,000 residents that we represent, Sequoia Healthcare District will soon be offering a new and exciting program, called 70 Strong.

70 Strong, which will launch in January, will connect older adults with the myriad of outstanding programs, services and fun activities that exist in our area. The connection will take place via three vehicles, a very easy to use and comprehensive website, a phone in line where callers can talk with a live counselor and a face-to-face in-person option both in the community and in the home.

The goal of the program is to enhance health and wellness and to reduce social isolationism that often leads to poor health outcomes. 70 Strong will be offered free to SHD residents. The program will be managed by Peninsula Family Services, a leading area non–profit.
