Standoff Ends With Peninsula Car Theft Suspect’s Arrest

A Central Valley man was arrested on suspicion of evading police resulting in injuries and possession of a stolen vehicle, police said.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — A Peninsula standoff culminated with the arrest of a vehicle theft suspect who led authorities on a frantic Monday morning pursuit that ended with a collision, Pacifica police said.

Alejandro Martinez, 26 of Stockton, was arrested on suspicion of evading police resulting in injuries and possession of a stolen vehicle, police said.

A female passenger located in the suspect’s vehicle was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries suffered in the collision, police said.

Officers at around 9:43 a.m. Monday responding to the 200 block of Gateway Drive on the report of a stolen vehicle located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit after the driver failed to yield during an attempted traffic stop, police said.

An approximately 50-minute standoff ensued after Martinez collided with a guardrail on Interstate 280 southbound in Daly City, police said.
