Theatre Way Street Closure Moves Forward In Redwood City Council
The $260,000 project, approved during a council meeting Monday, is intended to enhance pedestrian safety along a popular corridor.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — The Redwood City council approved the closure of Middlefield Road between Broadway and Winslow Street for a safety improvement project along the stretch of road known as Theatre Way.
The $260,000 project, approved during a council meeting Monday, would include purchasing surface mounted sliding bollards to enhance pedestrian safety along a heavily-trafficked corridor in downtown Redwood City that is also used for outdoor dining.
According to a staff report, there is a “strong public desire” to permanently restrict vehicle access along Theatre Way. Staff noted that there are alternate routes and that a street closure would not disrupt downtown traffic patterns. Installing a permanent barrier system would also reduce staff time in placing temporary blockades for frequent downtown events.
