Voting Open For How Redwood City Should Spend $1 Million

Community members will decide how the city should spend $1 million to improve or support the local community.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Voting is open for the Redwood City’s People’s Budget, a process through which community members decide how the city should spend $1 million to improve or support the local community.

The city received nearly 100 eligible project ideas across 15 categories. Voters will rank their top seven choices, and the winner will be determined by ranked-choice voting. Voting ends May 9.

Redwood City is also hosting seven pop-up events through May 7 to inform the public on the process.

The ideas include suggestions to help businesses, homelessness support and public safety.

Over 7,000 cities around the world have participated in a similar process. Examples of how other cities spent their money include building a community garden or playground, beautifying the neighborhood, providing laptops for students and making road improvements.
